Product of the month – December 2013 – Pure Almond Oil

I’ve changed tack a little bit with this blog post but it’s one of a handful of products that I’ve kept on my bedside table for many many years so it seemed natural to write about the cold pressed pure Almond oil from Tisserand Aromatherapy. Almond oil is a rich source of Vitamins A, B and E and excellent for skin health, which is why plenty of good skincare products contain these vitamins.

This oil really is a wonder product and unlike other oils which can be sticky or take a while to sink in, this one extremely light. Here’s what I use it for:

• A cuticle oil for hands and feet

• A nourishing body oil instead of using a moisturiser. It sinks in really quickly and doesn’t feel greasy or tacky so it’s great for using in the morning or evening, plus it’s suitable for all skin types

• A foot oil. Many foot creams contain high concentration of mineral oil which form a barrier against dryness but don’t always moisturise the skin at the same time. This does the latter job so if your feet aren’t in bad condition but just get a bit dry sometimes, I think this works better

• A mild massage oil as it has no fragrance. I also use it as a carrier for an aromatherapy blend

• Providing an extra boost of moisture by adding two drops into my blob of hair conditioner, twice a week

• As a base for a body exfoliator – I add sugar for sensitive skin and salt for normal or rough skin until a paste-consistency forms.

You can also use almond oil as a facial oil for dry or sensitive skin.

This particular one is ethically harvested 100% sweet almond oil and at only £3.95 for 100 ml, it’s a total and utter steal. Make sure if you can’t find this one that you buy a cold-pressed sweet oil with no added ingredients. So, instead of owning a possible six (or seven) products, I have one and save a tonne of money too. Genius, no?!
