Reflections on the last year

In a recent talk at Selfridges, inspiring make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury said to be successful you must, amongst other things: “be someone who takes guidance really well, be attentive, concerned, and generous”. I’d add to that: professional, calm, fun and provide excellent customer service. These are all the qualities that I strive for each time I work with clients as well as artistic professionals.

With Charlotte’s comment on my mind, it made me reflect and review what’s happened in the last 12 months and what’s coming up.

In the past year I’ve been contacted by over 130 people enquiring about my make-up service for their wedding, special event or to book a tutorial. With some of those enquiries being for the same date or timeframe and a policy of accepting only one wedding booking each day, I’m truly delighted that so far 31 women have chosen me to help pull together one of the most important days in their lives. It’s so rewarding and a joy to see each of their unique styles come together at their wedding and to spend time with their friends and family. I’ve received the most wonderful thank you’s from my clients and I feel so over the moon when I read how their dream day went.

The tutorials and make-up for special events have been varied and rewarding and I hope to do more of these in the future, and my blog has given me a way to share what I know and learn with a wider audience. I’ve also had sooo much fun working on different and exciting photoshoots and wedding catwalk events – more of which in a future post.

Back to weddings, and I’ve been fortunate to work with suppliers who have been supportive, helpful and I think see amazing customer service and a passion for their own professions like I do. Special thanks go to Joyce Connor from Brides and Beauty, the accessory designer Natasha Jane, photographers Fiona Kelly, Sophie Duckworth and Fiona Jones, hairstylists Jade Hamilton and Elise Hair, gown shops No10 Bridal and Brides of Winchester, blogger Louise from BLoved, Tara Fisher, make-up and hair artists Louise Clark, Laura Moss and Natalie James, the wedding venue Northbrook Park, Pippa Milner from Painted Hearts and the Weddings In Surrey / Weddings in Hampshire team. These and so many more, that it would take me all day to list, have been generous with their time and a total pleasure to know and work with.

Lastly, if there are any brides-to-be reading this post, there are two stand-out things I’ve learnt about organising a wedding so far: firstly, invest in the best photographer you can afford and secondly, hire an awesome band – I promise you won’t regret either! So, here’s to the second half of 2013 – I think there are a few more 2013 weddings to be booked in!
